Day 8 Log

The first week is always the most busy; you need to back track all the old job postings and see what you qualify for, and what you don't, and keep up on new postings...then you need to meet with the recruiters who want to say that they "have met you in person" to any prospective client. By the second week, things settle down...you've met with a bunch of recruiters, and gotten your resume updated, filed for UI benefits, and looked at all the backdated jobs...so now, it's watching the postings for new positions, and doing some searching on your own for companies you want to work for, finding out if they have any openings...it sure seems like things slow way down.
...

After researching the company and doing a search for new companies, I decided to do some reading on MySQL, not my primary interest when it comes to Databases, but I have been enjoying playing with it on my own server for a year now and it looks good to have additional databases listed on your resume, I am a high level novice with respect to MySQL...I've used it on my own site for two to three years, but have not used it in a professional setting, nor do I feel I have done more than scratch the surface of it's potential.

...

Had my meeting today with a recruiter in Bloomington...the weather was horrible, so it took me an extra 20 minutes to get there, then I had trouble finding the building, and navigating the streets proved to take more time than I had. In the end, I was 5 minutes late, but given the weather it was ok. I met with a younger man, probably early twenties, he didn't have a position for me, he just wanted to meet, so we could get a feel for eachother...because he didn't have a position for me and it was snowing out hard, I considered canceling the entire thing..I think I should have...it took me two hours to get home from the location...a drive that normally takes 35 minutes. So I left home at 2:15 and got back home at 6:00 all for a meeting that took 20 minutes, and didn't seem to go anywhere. His questions were more personal, not technical, and I didn't get the feeling they had a lot of clients. In the end, I perfer to meet with as many people as possible, so I guess it was worth it...who knows, maybe he will have a job come across his desk that matches my needs/wants, one can hope... as they say, it's not what you know, it's who you know.
